This part of the world doesn't offer an amazing variety of kloofing (also known as canyoning), however there is a hidden gem in the form of Grootkloof in the Magaliesberg.
ESSA will be running a day-trip for a limited number of participants to this beautiful kloof. It involves a moderate hike into the kloof and a fairly challenging descent down a series of rock pools where your balance and ability to remain upright will be tested.
There is also a scenic abseil off a huge boulder followed by a refreshing swim or two.
This event is weather-dependent so keep an eye on the email notifications to see if it will go ahead.
No climbing experience is required but participants with climbing harnesses and abseiling devices are asked to bring them along. We will have a light lunch in the kloof and should be out by 3pm.
This is a Mountain Club of SOuth Africa venue and a day permit is applicable. Details of the cost and process to secure a permit will communicated closer to the time. Make provision for approximately R50, plus the R75 day fee for non-ESSA members. Those without harnesses or abseiling devices will also be charged a small equipment hire fee.
A gear list will be sent to confirmed participants.
